What are you avoiding?

I know, the answer to that question is probably – “I don’t know”, “nothing”, or “why are you even asking me?”

We’re all avoiding something in our lives. It could be a difficult conversation, a decision we are afraid to make, the laundry in the dryer that’s been restarted for the 7th time or it’s just our own thoughts in our head.

As we approach the holiday season, it’s easier to get busier and busier. The pressure is put upon us by outside influences and ourselves to be busy, hustle and bustle, get all the shopping done, the lights up, arrangements made and so on. We’re avoiding when we are refusing to be still. When was the last time you sat down in that cozy chair in your house, phone put away, TV off, just quietness or maybe just the sound of your kids playing? We are easily distracted in today’s world. People are programmed to keep busy, numb it out or escape and don’t allow your feelings to take over.

What are you avoiding though? I believe we all have this unique beautiful magic within us and that we were created for something more than what you are already doing. It’s a scary thought to think that we aren’t living out our true life’s purpose. That can feel like pressure. We are created to transmit love, be in community, to see ourselves in the image of our creator, but instead, we keep the noise going so we don’t have to face the reality — that maybe we aren’t truly satisfied with our lives. That maybe when we look in the mirror we are not loving what we see. That maybe, we want out of a relationship or are afraid to be in one.

Whatever it is you’re avoiding, it will keep coming for you. That’s how the Universe, God whatever you want to call it works. It keeps at us, poking at us in different ways until we’ve had enough and we can’t do anything but face it… or…

If you’re feeling unclear, like you know you’re avoiding something in your life and can’t quite put your finger on it there are a couple ways you can have that message come across clearly –

Get outside – when we are connected with the Earth, we are grounded in such a beautiful way that the channels of communication are suddenly opened up. We feel as though we can bring again.

Journal – the business in our head needs to get out and writing is a very powerful and beautiful way to get that noise out of the way. Sit down and write, whatever comes out without judgement. If you don’t know what to write, write exactly that until the message starts to flow.

Meditate/Pray – sitting still and getting quiet or listening to a meditation allows your mind to focus and get clear. Your mind needs you to give it a break and this is a beautiful way to do so.

Talk with someone – a person that gets you and understands what your intention is. One that is going to lovingly be by your side and walk with you, not feed your excuses. Some of the best medicine is talking it out with a friend who is in a growth space as well.

Lastly, if you really want to create the change, find out what your avoiding, why you’re holding back…hire a coach or get involved in a group program. Get into the space, up close with someone who does this work and teaches others to do the same.

It’s up to you to decide to grab hold and start getting present with your life, taking responsibility and owning your decisions. Avoiding what you know that little voice is trying to tell you will only create more chaos, more overwhelm, more worry and keep you exactly where you are. Create the change you want. Live your life the way you want. Be fulfilled and feel the passion, see the magic that life has to offer you.
